Gangs in England are active in several cities, especially in big cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham and more recently in the areas of Bradford and Liverpool. Three quarters of the gang of crime-related gun crime in particular focused in London, Birmingham and Manchester, however. It is also the media in previous years of the active gangs in Leeds, Bristol and Nottingham, although to a much lesser extent than other major cities. The three aforementioned cities appear in a series of articles sensational in the first part of this decade, when the stories of wars and gang struggles frequented in national and local newspapers. Bristol, Leeds, Nottingham and have since received much national media attention for his role in British gang involvement. However, the police reported that Leeds had this problem and Nottingham has seen big declines in gun crime despite the media continue to refer to the city as "Shottingham. The most violent gangs are reportedly taking strongholds in small towns and cities such as Keighley (not Bradford) in West Yorkshire.
Many researchers have rejected the existence of gangs in the UK because not conform to stereotypes of gangs in America. However, Klein (2001, 2004, 2005) suggests that many American bands do not fit these stereotypes. In 2001 a book entitled The Paradox Eurogang was published. Klein (2001) who coined the term did so in response to this denial of street gangs in Europe.
