Hi,i’m 52,so please keep your answer non-technical please!! I’ve got Windows XP Home Edition SP2 with Windows Media Player 11.I also have a Creative Audigy 4 Sound Blaster which I use for my music.My computer won’t play DVDs (such as the freebie in Sunday’s ‘News Of The World’) ’00-Heaven’. I’ve downloaded a codec from Windows which is supposed to make it work but sadly it doesn’t.Ideally,I’d like to play the odd dvd now and then,but have no idea why my computer won’t play DVD nor will it tell me what I should be doing in order for it to play a DVD. If any of you have this problem,and have cured it,would you please be kind enough to share your secrets please?! It’s driving me nuts tonight! Thank you very much for your help.Alan L.
This is a bit like killing a mosquito with a shotgun, but I sugest you install the K-lite Mega codec pack – it contains basically every codec that exists. While this is overkill for your problem, it should ensure that you never run into a video or audio file that you can’t play.
It also includes the ‘media player classic’ – which I find to be vastly superior to the newer versions of media player, but you don’t have to use it if you like WMP 11.
Just download the file from the link I included and do the default install. Reboot, and you should be good to go.
