Mac downloads, it downloads but it does something weird?
I am trying to download a youtube downloader/converter, and windows media player from the internet. i search them on google and then find a source to download from and its all fine. but when it downloads it take 3 seconds, when it know it should take much longer. and when i open it, it opens in “TextEdit” and there is just a bunch of chicken scratch letters. Can anyone help me to understand why this is happening and tell me how to get past it? Thank you
Download it again. Sounds like the download failed and you’re opening a broken file.
As I’m sure you’re aware, you could always control click (or right click if you have a two button mouse) on the file and choose which application to open it with if your file associations have somehow been screwed up, but I doubt that’s the problem; it sounds more like the download simply failed, which happens to everyone sometimes.
If the download fails over and over again, it could be problems with the remote server, which would mean that there’s nothing you can do about it other than finding a different source for the file.
