What’s the best Media Manager?
I’m looking for something that is user friendly like iTunes but also allows for extendability because I want to be able to manager the library metadata using metabrainz and/or musicdns.org
VLC Looks good, but I’m looking for a Media Manager, not just Media Player. VLC is a Media Player that is open source and handles just about every format so I do like it, but I’m looking for a Media Manager that lists the audio, video, and image files that are in your library and allow you to make playlists and preferably have a party shuffle feature like iTunes, or at least be extendable so one can be added with a plugin.
I’ve been using Yahoo Music Engine lately for it’s subscription music service. For music I rip from my CD collection, YME will update the data from some third party source.
All the files are stored as simple MP3s (or user prefered) format on the file system so there should be no problem having another tool run over the directories to update and manage the meta data if you prefer.
You could also do the same with Windows Media Player too.
Both are free.
