How to sync iPod iTunes music video movie to Windows Media Player and vice versa

Windows media player bad at playing AVI?
My Windows media player plays the AVI but it is really laggy both video and audio. I want to fix this. Should I get a video converter? If so where? Free only please.
I have the same problem. I almost never use windows media player for playing avi. Instead of converting your videos you should get VLC player which is the best one I have seen for avi.
